Histology Technician - PRN

Granger Medical Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented PRN Histology Technician to join our Dermatology team in West Jordan. This position plays a critical role in supporting our Mohs surgery program by processing tissue specimens and preparing high-quality microscope slides for evaluation by the Mohs surgeon.

The Histology Technician is responsible for accurately processing tissue samples, ensuring specimen integrity, maintaining laboratory quality standards, and assisting in the timely diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer patients.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Process and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination during Mohs surgery procedures.
  • Embed, section, stain, and mount tissue samples according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Operate and maintain cryostats, microtomes, and other histology laboratory equipment.
  • Evaluate slide quality and ensure accurate specimen identification and labeling.
  • Maintain quality control standards and documentation to ensure reliable test results.
  • Troubleshoot technical and equipment issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Communicate effectively with providers regarding specimen status and results.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Generate and review pending specimen logs to ensure timely processing and completion of all cases to remain compliant with CLIA.

Qualifications

  • Histology Technician (HT) certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in histology, pathology, dermatology, or Mohs surgery laboratory settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining techniques, and laboratory quality control procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with providers and clinical staff.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree or certificate equivalent, required
  • 2 years experience, preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work, requiring lifting up to 10lbs
  • Inside, climate-controlled working conditions
