Fibre Network Data Integrity Officer
About the role
The Fibre Network Data Integrity Officer (GIS data) safeguards the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of geospatial and fibre inventory data that describe Vocus’ fibre network infrastructure.
The role blends GIS analysis, data governance, and handson systems development with close collaboration across Fibre Engineering Services, Fibre Planning & Design, Service Delivery and Operations and reports to Manager of Fibre Network Design Analytics.
You will lead the daytoday workflows that validate and curate network records, enable spatial decisionmaking, and ensure that plans, designs and builds are consistently reflected across OSS/BSS, NMS and GIS platforms.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Data Integrity, Governance & Performance
- Define and maintain GIS and inventory data standards, validation scripts and acceptance criteria across the fibre lifecycle (plan → design → build → operate).
- Establish KPIs for data quality and throughput; monitor performance, identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain change control for spatial layers, versioning and lineage; coordinate audits and incident reviews to prevent recurrence.
- Act as the communication point between Data Integrity/GIS and the wider business; translate business changes into updated data and process requirements.
GIS Analysis & Mapping
- Evaluate and integrate geospatial datasets, including fibre infrastructure, onnet buildings, cadastral boundaries and satellite imagery.
- Digitise and validate optical fibre routes and circuit paths; reconcile discrepancies with legacy repositories.
- Produce maps, schematics, thematic layers, dashboards and reports using QGIS/ArcGIS, spatial analysis methods and scripts.
- Provide interpretation and analysis of spatial outputs to Designers, Engineers and Project Managers to support decisionmaking.
Fibre Planning & Design Support
- Support planning and design of optical fibre paths for new connections, network extensions, relocations, cancellations, and capacity upgrades.
- Create and update splice designs and schedules; maintain national fibre records with accurate design and as built data.
- Monitor network capacity and initiate rearrangements or upgrades as required.
- Apply SafetyinDesign principles and ensure design compliance across all artefacts.
Solutions Engineering Interface
- Translate project requirements into technical documentation such as network diagrams, logical designs, scopes of work, bills of material, test plans, and handover packs.
- Coordinate with internal delivery teams, vendors and contractors; manage issues, risks, variations and stock/inventory verification.
- Prepare rosters and resource planning for data/GIS tasks; lead regular reviews, standups and team support activities.
Systems, Automation & Development
- Develop and maintain GIS databases, ETL pipelines and APIs (PostgreSQL/PostGIS preferred) to integrate OSS/BSS, NMS and provisioning systems.
- Build automation and internal tools using Python and/or JavaScript for validation, spatial querying and visualisation.
- Generate custom reports from GIS datasets and automate recurring reporting and analysis tasks.
Stakeholder Support & Training
- Provide expert user support for GIS layers, map services and remotely sensed datasets.
- Troubleshoot GISrelated issues and deliver training to uplift GIS capability across Engineering and Operations.
- Maintain strong communication and engagement with internal customers and external stakeholders.
- Ensure to meet KPI and SLAs for this role
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned to meet business objectives and organization strategy.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- 3+ years’ experience in telecommunications, fibre design, GIS analysis, or a related technical discipline.
- Understanding Data Centre cabling architecture, and fibre network infrastructure is advantageous.
- Knowledge of JavaScript fundamentals; Exposure to web development (JavaScript, React, Angular, Node) is advantageous.
- Understanding of optical fibre network architecture, physical and logical design elements and service provider protocols (MPLS, BGP, OSPF/ISIS, DNS, RADIUS)
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications or GIS or related discipline
