The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Fibre Planner & Designer to join our team in our Sydney Office.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the planning and Designing the Vocus Fibre network.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
As the Senior Fibre Planner & Designer your role responsibilities will also include:
- Monitor and manage network capacity, creating new network, network upgrade, and network rearrangement orders as required.
- Design optical fibre paths, utilising various assets, for new customer connections, capacity upgrades, network extensions, relocations, and cancellations.
- Create field ready plans for construction teams to build
- Comply and monitor Safety in Design concepts while designing the network.
- Manage records across the network.
- Create splice schedules/designs for allocation to the workforce and contractors.
- Provide pre-sale designs and assist with cost estimates for tenders to the sales team
- Provide support and direction to the workforce and contractors on carrying out allocated tasks.
- Provide reports and perform other duties as requested by management.
- Ensure designs are delivered within contractually specified timeframes.
- Provide assistance during fault situations during core business hours.
- Liaise strategically with multiple stakeholders to extend the network.
- Provide support for the introduction of new technologies.
- Plan and design the implementation of new technologies onto the network.
What you’ll bring to this role
- To be successful as the Senior Fibre Planner & Designer, you will have at least 7 years of experience in a similar role
- Experience with software tools used for network design and documentation is essential. Examples include:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g. QGIS, Google EC)
- CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD)
- Network design and planning tools (e.g. VISIO, Telstra ADR/3rd party Duct plans)
Fibre Optic Cable Knowledge:
- A deep understanding of different fibre types (single-mode, multi-mode), cable construction, connectors, and splicing techniques is critical
- Fibre Network construction methodologies and best practices
- Network Topologies and Architectures: Familiarity with various network topologies (e.g., point-to-point, ring, star) and architectures is necessary.
- Optical Transmission Principles: Knowledge of optical signal transmission, attenuation, dispersion, and other related concepts is important.
- Testing and Measurement Equipment: Experience analysing results from optical test equipment (e.g., OTDRs, power meters, light sources) is often required.
