About the role

The Principal Signalling Engineer will be the subject matter expert on rail signalling and provide technical leadership to the signalling team. The role is accountable for providing technical inputs into bid submissions and tender strategy as well as responsible for providing technical guidance, input and management during design and delivery of signalling projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and agree with design timeframes shown on design program

  • Attend design reviews

  • Contribute technical advice to the team on matters relating to the engineering solution

  • Participate in leadership roles for tender preparation

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the overall project and effectively communicate such understanding to the applicable Project Team members under supervision

  • Review and oversee design outputs to ensure compliance with the project requirements

  • Ensure that all necessary reviews, verifications and validations are planned and conducted, and the outcomes of these are incorporated into the design

  • Create a team culture that fosters high performance and personal improvement mindset

  • Act as a technical reference authority.

About You

  • Experienced Signalling Design Engineer at Senior - Principal level

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and able to obtain Acceptance by Engineers Australia or equivalent.

  • RPEQ in a relevant discipline, or the capability to achieve RPEQ

  • Level 3 Signalling Design Competency from QR or the ability to achieve same immediately.

  • Ability to work with and develop productive relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
