This position sits at the intersection of health and urban planning, working to shape healthier built environments across South Western Sydney. It is an opportunity to influence long-term population health outcomes by embedding health considerations into planning, policy, and development projects. The position is with the Healthy Places team which sits within the broader Collaboration Unit, Population Health SWSLHD. The position works closely with local councils, NSW Government agencies, developers, community organisations, and internal SWSLHD teams. Collaboration is central, requiring cross-sector partnerships to ensure health is a priority in planning and development decisions. The position also contributes to District and Population Health strategic project and business priorities.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is a strategic and collaborative professional with highly developed interpersonal skills, capable of building and maintaining strong partnerships across a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. They bring a strong understanding of urban planning and placemaking principles, with the ability to articulate how these influence community wellbeing and public health outcomes. With exceptional written communication skills, they are adept at preparing clear, persuasive submissions that align with organisational strategic priorities. The candidate demonstrates strong analytical capability, able to critically assess planning proposals, policies and strategies against evidence-based criteria to evaluate impacts and inform appropriate responses. They also possess a solid knowledge of strategic planning processes across local, state and federal government, and understand how these intersect and influence one another to shape health outcomes.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant health-related discipline or relevant experience.
  • High level understanding of evidence-based practice, healthy urban development, health outcome measurement, and emerging trends in the Australian health care system.
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Demonstrated experience in health service planning, and/or policy development, and/or project management and/or health services research .
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
