Havenlee School is situated on the traditional land of the Yuin Nation, and we acknowledge and pay our respects to the Yuin people, past and present, as the custodians of this land. As a Special School located in North Nowra, we are proud to be a part of the Northern Shoalhaven Community of Schools.
Our school comprises 10 classes serving students from preschool through to Year 12, (8 IO/IS & 2 MC). We cater to students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, many of whom have additional physical, behavioural, and developmental needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Havenlee School has a strong commitment to supporting Aboriginal education, with Aboriginal students representing approximately 46% of our enrolment. We strive to provide an inclusive, culturally safe, and supportive learning environment that respects and celebrates the diverse backgrounds of our students and community.
- Approval to teach special education, and/or demonstrated experience teaching students from preschool to Year 12 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and/or complex medical and behavioural needs. Candidates should provide evidence of tailored pedagogical approaches to meet diverse learner requirements.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive programming and assessment across multi-stage classes that foster student growth, wellbeing, and engagement. This includes demonstrated experience supporting the learning and cultural needs of Aboriginal students in alignment with departmental policies and frameworks.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing effective classroom management strategies that support diverse learning needs, including students exhibiting challenging behaviours and those with complex medical requirements.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated through a capacity to collaborate constructively and professionally with colleagues, parents, carers, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), support agencies, and the broader school community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
