The Role

Are you an experienced Youth FDV Counsellor looking to make an impact in the lives of young people? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you in our Open Space program!

As the Youth FDV Counsellor you will provide therapeutic support services and psychological assessments for young people. Through counselling, groupwork and case management approaches, you will work to improve outcomes for young people at risk, who have been exposed or are at risk of family and domestic violence within their family or intimate relationships.

This position is a fixed term full-time role until 30 June 2027 working 76 hours a fortnight and is located in Rockingham.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant field, such as Psychology, Counselling or Social Work

  • Registration with AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia, Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)

  • Relevant experience and understanding of family and domestic violence in relation to young people, trauma informed practice and an understanding of child development

  • Understanding of self-care and vicarious trauma management

  • Ability to develop rapport and therapeutic alliance, be non-judgmental and provide a high level of counselling, case management and assessment to clients

  • Ability to apply current knowledge of developmental and psychosocial issues to assess clients and refer effectively if deemed necessary

  • Knowledge of Family and Domestic Violence and working with Family Safety.

  • Knowledge in developmental and psychosocial issues

  • Knowledge of relevant theoretical approaches for working with young people and families

  • Strong culturally safe practice and knowledge to ensure the cultural safety of clients, including those from an Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background, or the LGBTIQA+ community

  • Satisfactory Police clearance (not older than 6 months from the issue date)

  • Unrestricted drivers' licence

  • Working With Children Check
