What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of a Provisional Fellow in Anaesthesia at Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospital is to provide anaesthesia services, under supervision, as part of the basic training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

There will be the option to undertake a General Fellowship, a Perioperative Fellowship, or a Simulation and Education Fellowship.


Provisional Fellows are required to :

  • Extend their clinical assessment knowledge and skills to manage anaesthesia for common medical conditions of high complexity and optimise outcomes for patients through appropriate consultation.
  • Deliver anaesthesia, perioperative care and pain management services inside and outside the operating rooms at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital and rotating hospitals.
  • To perform other duties during rotations to other areas as directed.
  • Participate as a multidisciplinary team member across key areas of anaesthetics, including:
    • Anaesthesia and sedation
    • Regional anaesthesia
    • Airway management
    • Pain medicine
    • Perioperative medicine
    • Resuscitation
    • Trauma and crisis management
    • Obstetric anaesthesia
    • Teaching and supervision


  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Completed a minimum of three postgraduate years and some experience in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
  3. Able to work in Anaesthesia under supervision and to work weekends and after-hours in the specialty area. Work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  5. Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  7. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of anaesthesia and a demonstrated interest in clinical audit or research.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
