About the Role

Whitehaven Coal is seeking our next Mechanical Engineer to join the team at Vickery Mine. Reporting to the Maintenance Engineering function, this role will play a key part in improving plant reliability, reducing unplanned downtime, and supporting the safe and efficient operation of site assets.

Working closely with maintenance, operations, OEMs, and engineering stakeholders, you will contribute to reliability improvement initiatives, condition monitoring programs, shutdown planning, and capital project activities across site.

What You’ll Do

  • Support reliability and maintenance improvement initiatives across fixed plant and site infrastructure
  • Investigate equipment failures and downtime events to identify root causes and drive permanent corrective actions
  • Develop and optimise maintenance strategies, standard jobs, and procedures
  • Support condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis, oil analysis, and equipment performance monitoring
  • Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, operations, and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance and reliability
  • Assist with statutory compliance activities, audits, and engineering documentation reviews
  • Provide technical mechanical engineering support to maintenance and operational teams
  • Analyse performance data and deliver reliability reporting to support business decision-making

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience within mining, heavy industry, mineral processing, or similar environments (minimum 3 years)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Well-developed analytical, reporting, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across operational and technical teams
  • A desire to continue developing within the mining industry, including working toward statutory engineering qualifications

Highly Regarded

  • Experience with CMMS platforms such as SAP or Pulse
  • Exposure to condition monitoring and asset performance systems
  • Familiarity with NSW mining legislation and relevant Australian Standards
