Salary - from $190,000 base salary + super (based on skills and experience)

We are seeking a highly capable and proactive leader to join our Planning & Development Directorate as Manager City Future. This role requires a leader who can translate strategy into deliver, actively manage complex work programs, and lead teams with clarity and accountability.

In this senior leadership role, you will lead the City Future Business Unit and drive integrated urban planning, economic development and city-shaping initiatives that enhance liveability and support sustainable growth. You will play a key role in positioning the City for the future through strategic leadership, policy development and delivery of major projects.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Director Planning & Development, you will:

  • Provide strong leadership and oversight of the City Future Business Unit
  • Drive urban planning, economic development and tourism initiatives
  • Develop and implement business plans, budgets and performance frameworks aligned to corporate strategy
  • Actively manage City Future projects, schemes, policies and heritage work programs
  • Facilitate investment attraction and economic growth opportunities
  • Provide expert advice to Executive and Council, including reports and submissions
  • Build strong stakeholder partnerships across government, industry and community
  • Champion a high-performing, engaged and future-focused team culture

Qualifications

What you'll bring

To be successful, you will demonstrate:

  • Significant experience and a tertiary qualification in Urban & Regional Planning or related discipline
  • Significant senior leadership experience in planning, development or local government
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy development and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to lead strategic planning and economic development initiatives
  • Experience managing budgets, business cases and major projects
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated capability to lead change and drive organisational outcomes
