About the role
We are seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Caval Ridge team in the Bowen Basin. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys spending time in the field building relationships, coaching others and providing practical support, while also balancing the office-based safety, reporting and administrative tasks that help teams work safely.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will work as a trusted advisor and support function across the Thiess operation on site. You will partner with Superintendents, supervisors, crews and support teams to strengthen engagement, improve risk awareness and help embed the site's Safety and Health Management System in a way that is practical, visible and understood.
In this role, you will:
- Build positive relationships with frontline teams, supervisors and leaders through regular field engagement and practical support.
- Coach and mentor leaders and crews to identify hazards, understand controls and make safe decisions in day-to-day work.
- Provide guidance and support for incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions and sharing lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
- Support field leadership activities, workplace inspections, observations and risk-based conversations that improve safety outcomes.
- Assist with injury management and return-to-work processes by maintaining respectful communication and supporting workers, leaders and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain safety records, reports and action management processes while helping teams understand what is required and why it matters.
- Promote a healthy, safe and respectful workplace by supporting compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, standards and site requirements.
About you
You will be a practical, approachable and people-focused safety professional who is comfortable working alongside operational teams. You will enjoy influencing through support, coaching and conversation rather than relying only on compliance.
- Experience in a health and safety role, (Min 2 years) ideally within mining, heavy industry, construction, civil, transport, manufacturing or another operational environment.
- Mining experience is highly regarded, however we welcome applicants with transferable experience and a genuine interest in learning the mining industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, support and influence people at all levels.
- A coaching mindset and the confidence to have constructive safety conversations in the field.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk management principles and incident investigation processes.
- Tertiary qualifications in health and safety, or a willingness to continue developing your capability in this area.
- Strong computer literacy and the ability to manage reporting, records and action tracking requirements.
- A collaborative approach, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
