This is an opportunity to develop a centre of excellence in psychiatric rehabilitation, and the Clinical Director will have opportunities to build capacity for research in the Rehabilitation Psychiatry.

Purpose of the Position
The position of Clinical Director, Macquarie Hospital works in collaboration with the Service Director, Macquarie Hospital to lead, develop and maintain mental health services of the high standards. The position has delegated responsibility for the clinical governance of the service, including clinical quality and safety.

The position has direct responsibility for the senior and junior medical workforce, including the recruitment, retention and leadership of the medical workforce. The position has the responsibility for the oversight of supervision, education and training of all clinical staff in conjunction with senior nursing and allied health staff and is required to support and develop clinicians to become active participants within the learning and performance oriented culture of Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Service of the NSLHD.

The position will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under their care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).

The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

The position is also to lead, advise upon, develop and implement clinical service plans and models of care, in collaboration with the Service Director.

The Clinical Director, Macquarie Hospital is also the Medical Superintendent under the Mental Health Act 2007; support medical staff in performing all Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI) related tasks and ensure timely transition of consumers to community living.

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within three months may be considered.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Demonstrated experience in working as a senior clinician in acute psychiatry, community based and inpatient settings, including experience in working with the NSW Mental Health Act (2007) and proven ability to work as a leader of a multidisciplinary team across hospital and community settings.
  4. Proven high performance as an experienced clinician, with experience in management and leadership and proven ability to work as a manager.
  5. Understanding of and commitment to the National, State and Local Health District Mental Health Plans and strategic direction, including commitment to a performance based Organisation.
  6. Experience in liaising and working closely with GP's, consumers and carers with demonstrated understanding of the rehabilitation and case management models of care.
  7. Experience in teaching psychiatry to students, trainees and others and supervising trainees in psychiatry.
  8. Demonstrated interest in improvement of clinical governance of mental health services, including quality improvement methodologies, and a commitment to fostering this interest in medical staff and other clinicians.
