Job Summary: Netflix Animation is looking for a Technical Trainer to join our global, end-to-end feature studio. As a Training Specialist, you will manage a diverse set of responsibilities aimed at advancing technical and enrichment education. Your contributions will include designing and organizing curriculum, leading training sessions on industry-standard and proprietary Netflix Animation tools, and developing and maintaining training content for tools and workflows across the production pipeline. The Technical Trainer will be a key member of a global team, reporting directly to the Director of Production Training and Talent Development. In this collaborative role, they will work alongside the Technical Trainer in Vancouver and partner with various cross-functional teams to develop educational content and courses that address the evolving needs of artists and production teams across Netflix Animation Studios. What You'll Do: Onboarding/New Hire Training: Support the design and delivery of Netflix Animation's new-hire onboarding curriculum by providing a best-in-class new-hire training experience. Department Training Support: Partner with subject-matter experts to deliver training on fundamental skills (e.g., cinematography, design), technical tools (e.g., Maya, Houdini, Nuke), and studio practices (e.g., pipelines and workflows). Custom Course Creation: As needed, partner with tech and production departments to leverage internal training assets, develop course outlines, and support the transformation of existing materials into courses and workshops. SME Course Support: Support subject matter experts in developing course outlines, learning objectives, and instructional design. LMS Management: Support the Learning Management System by creating, uploading, and tracking courses and Instructor-Led Trainings (ILTs). This can also include designing icons, buttons, and graphics for LMS and Courses. Training Material Maintenance: Maintain and update existing training materials to align with production workflows. Create new materials tailored to the team or studio-wide. Collaboration and Instruction: Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and an open mind. Work with Artist Management, Production, and Technology teams to understand training needs and deliver intermediate and advanced technical training solutions. Training & Event Support: Maintain training spaces (rooms, classrooms, equipment, and software), coordinate with Tech/AV, manage scheduling with the Training Coordinator, and help organize and deliver internal and cross-studio learning events. Team Collaboration: Partner with productions, department leadership, and Artist Management to identify training opportunities to help support craft department workshops. What You'll Need: Teaching and Instructional Design: Expertise in designing and delivering engaging training sessions, both in-person and online, with a passion for teaching. Skilled in instructional design and using assessment tools to measure effectiveness. Technical and Industry Expertise: Possess a deep understanding and first-hand working knowledge of CG production pipelines and team collaboration in film production. Proficient in 3D animation tooling such as Maya, Mari, Houdini (including Solaris), and Nuke, as well as navigating complex proprietary tools and production workflows, utilizing USD. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences, demonstrating strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience working in a global team environment. Capable of building and maintaining strong team relationships, appreciating cultural and business nuances globally. Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Proven experience in diagnosing and resolving technical issues in a fast-paced environment. Skilled in maintaining composure under pressure and adept at thriving in a rapidly growing, global studio environment. Must be capable of supporting constant change and managing ambiguity effectively. Organizational and Documentation Skills: Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with experience in documentation using platforms like Confluence and Google Workspace Curiosity and Partnership Approach: Demonstrate strong curiosity and an advisory approach in understanding and translating talent needs into training initiatives and programming, with a proven track record of at least two successful program implementations. Background / Experience: Blended experience in Film Production, Feature Animation, or a related field, together with a background in educational learning and development or an equivalent role. Strong understanding of the feature animation production pipeline and related tools (e.g., Houdini, Maya). This role is based in Sydney, Australia. Hybrid Role (Minimum requirement of 3 days a week in the office).
