About the Role
The Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line is Tasmania's first point of contact for individuals seeking information, advice, and support regarding concerns about children and families. The service connects families with a coordinated network of government and community services, promoting early intervention and improved outcomes for children and young people.
As an Advice and Referral Line Worker, you will provide timely advice, information, and referrals to support children and families. Using a strengths-based approach and assessment frameworks, you will identify safety and wellbeing concerns, assess needs, and determine appropriate responses, including referrals to support services or, where necessary, the Child Safety Service for further assessment. The role requires strong communication, assessment, and decision-making skills to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.
Key Selection Criteria:

- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport quickly including by phone and develop and maintain positive relationships to maximise the participation of professionals, families, and community members in achieving best outcomes for children and families.
- Ability to draw upon varied information sources including alternate points of view to assess and analyse a situation and utilise sound professional judgement to determine next steps.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including report writing, case noting, writing complex assessments, undertaking complex and difficult phone conversations, and confidently presenting information to a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging and working therapeutically with culturally and linguistically diverse families and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
