Where you'll be working

The Family & Carer Mental Health Program sits within the Unter New England Mental Health Service (HNE MHS) and is dedicated to strengthening outcomes for consumers by supporting the families and carers who play a vital role in their recovery.
The Family and Carer Mental Health Program is based at the Mater Mental Health Admin Building, while also working closely alongside teams across Greater Newcastle and Hunter Valley. This includes regular in person engagement to provide in-reach clinical support, build strong partnerships and embed family and carer inclusive practice. The role extends across the wider service, offering consultation more broadly through a blended model of face to face, outreach and virtual work, giving you the opportunity to connect and influence practice across multiple settings.

This program operates within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environments across a range of clinical settings. A strong emphasis is placed on family and carer-inclusive practice, community development, and partnerships with government and non-government organisations to enhance service delivery and system wide impact. The team values innovation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, and actively contributes to statewide initiatives to advance family and carer engagement across the mental health service

What you'll be doing

This is a senior social work (level 3) position focused on both clinical and system level work with families and carers of mental health service users.

The role will deliver direct and indirect clinical interventions, provide advanced clinical advice and consultation to multidisciplinary teams to support family and carer inclusive practice, assist in leading the implementation of family and carer initiatives, facilitate education, supervision and mentoring for staff, students and less experienced clinicians, contribute to and lead projects, working groups and service while developing and maintaining strong partnerships.

The role reports to the Head of Social Work and works closely with the Family and Carer Coordinator within HNE MHS.

About you

We are seeking a clinician with experience in family interventions within mental health and advanced clinical reasoning and assessment skills, particularly when working with complex family dynamics. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and relationship-building skills, the ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities, and a collaborative approach to building partnerships across services. A strong commitment to recovery-oriented and family-inclusive practice is essential.

Requirements

  1. Degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and a minimum of 3 years (FTE) experience as a qualified Social Worker (preferably in a mental health setting or demonstrated experience working with families and carers of consumers who experience a mental illness)
  2. Eligibility to drive in NSW.
