Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Fleet Controller to join our Derrimut, Melbourne team.
This is a permanent Afternoon Shift position, working Sunday to Thursday, 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating daily fleet operations, managing container movements, and ensuring exceptional service delivery across our wharf cartage operations. You will work closely with drivers, subcontractors, customers, and internal stakeholders to maintain operational efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily wharf cartage movements to meet customer requirements.
- Allocate and manage work for company drivers and subcontractors.
- Monitor fleet performance, ensuring containers are collected and delivered within terminal slot windows.
- Ensure compliance with Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), mass management, and fatigue management legislation.
- Maintain accurate transport system data and operational records.
- Liaise effectively with customers, terminals, drivers, and internal teams to achieve service expectations.
- Manage container de-hires to minimise detention charges.
- Support and mentor drivers while promoting a strong safety culture.
- Identify and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 2 years' experience working within a wharf cartage operation.
- Demonstrated experience managing a fleet ranging from Semi-Trailers through to Higher Productivity Freight Vehicles (HPFV).
- Strong working knowledge of 1-Stop Vehicle Booking System (VBS) and its functions.
- Experience using Containerchain.
- Sound understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) legislation.
- Strong knowledge of Mass Management and Fatigue Management requirements.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
