Job description:

This position works across the Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) to ensure workforce scheduling and absence management processes are compliant, effective, and efficient to support the operations of the TPS. The position provides specialist advice and support to senior management, pertaining to complex workforce scheduling, leave and absence management.

Permanent Full-time

This is a day work position working 73.50 hours per fortnight.

Benefits

Salary of $112,990 - $127,715 pa. Starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale. The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time).

Duties

  • Manage the resources of the Workforce Scheduling and Absence Management Unit including the human, physical, and financial resources, provide leadership and development opportunities to the team.
  • Manage centralised rostering and absence management strategy in the TPS, ensuring industrial compliance.
  • Provide a specialist, high level consultancy and advisory service to senior management in relation to staff placements and rotations, rostering, and leave and absence management.
  • Review, develop and implement policies and procedures relating to rostering and absence management within the TPS.
  • Establish a mechanism for investigating and analysing workforce patterns as they relate to rosters, absence information.
  • Develop and implement formal guidance documentation and reporting mechanisms for the monitoring of rostering patterns and absences in the TPS.
  • Undertake research and investigations into complex issues and prepare correspondence, reports, formal responses, briefing notes and recommendations as appropriate.
  • Build and manage effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior management to resolve issues.
  • Other duties as directed that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying jobs at this classification level.
