What you'll be doing
In this role, you will support the delivery of specialised radiology physics services and contribute to ensuring safety and compliance across WSLHD.
Perform commissioning and ongoing QA testing of X-ray equipment
Support radiation safety programs and work closely with the Radiation Safety Officer
Conduct radiation shielding design, assessment and dosimetry activities
Deliver training and supervision to registrars and clinical staff
Provide expert advice on equipment performance, optimisation and compliance
Applications are invited for a motivated, enthusiastic Radiology Medical Physics Specialist to assist in providing physics services as part of the Department of Medical Physics, based at Westmead Hospital. The successful candidate will join a friendly and dynamic team delivering scientific and technical support and radiation safety services to the Western Sydney Local Health District.
This temporary full-time position provides extended leave coverage until November 2026. The department anticipates a permanent full time vacancy after this date due to retirement of the substantive position holder.

Essential Criteria
Qualification: Undergraduate degree in science with a major in Physics and full EPA CRE accreditation obtained within 6 months of employment.
Registration: ACPSEM Registration or Certification in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (Radiology).
Selection Criteria
Undergraduate degree in science with a major in Physics (Postgraduate degree in physics/medical physics is desirable)
Demonstrated experience in all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology Physics including equipment testing, radiology radiation dosimetry, radiation shielding and radiation safety.
Good working knowledge of computing environments and software.
Demonstrated ability to produce work to a high professional standard within defined timelines.
Highly developed verbal, written and electronic communication skills, including experience teaching to a range of professions.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, working both independently and as part of a team.
Be willing to work irregular hours (early or late) at times and possess or obtain within 6 months an unrestricted drivers licence valid in NSW.
Demonstrated ability to show initiative, have a flexible approach to service delivery, and prioritise amongst competing service requirements.
