Create your best future and join Westpac as a Lead Cloud DevOps Engineer - GCP.

What's the role?

We are seeking an experienced GCP Lead Cloud DevOps Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of a full-stack cloud platform for a major banking client on Google Cloud. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, you will work across platform engineering, full stack application development, and data/AI capabilities to ensure solutions are not only well designed but successfully implemented and running in production.

You will play a key role in taking initiatives from concept to deployment, helping engineers navigate complexity, solve problems, and deliver scalable, secure and reliable systems. This is not a pure architecture role, you will be expected to stay close to code, actively contribute to engineering decisions, and drive outcomes end-to-end.

What do I need?

  • Strong hands-on experience delivering production systems on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, BigQuery, Pub/Sub and Spanner, along with networking, IAM and security controls.
  • Solid software engineering skills, with experience in Java, Python or Go, and a strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, APIs and event-driven architectures. You should be comfortable working in complex environments and debugging and scaling systems in production.
  • Experience or exposure to data platforms and AI/ML services such as Vertex AI, GECX.
  • Deep familiarity with GCP services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, BigQuery and Pub/Sub.
  • Strong experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD, containerisation, Kubernetes and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (banking/financial services preferred).
  • Strong leadership mindset with a focus on execution, ownership and delivery outcomes.
