Technical Director- Urban Development

Our Urban Development team is a rapidly growing team with a diverse portfolio of projects across South-East Queensland with some of the region's most prominent property developers. These include master-planned residential communities (up to 4,500 lots), large scale industrial developments and mixed-use precincts. Our team is also supporting growth in energy transitions projects as well as data centres and social infrastructure (education and health).
We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about urban development to provide local technical and project delivery leadership to our high performing team.
- Take a key leadership role in urban development projects, providing technical advice, project oversight, and direction as required.
- Deliver consultancy services across projects, developing innovative solutions that extend beyond standard codes.
- Build and maintain a strong professional profile and reputation within Arcadis and the wider industry.
- Manage the delivery of projects by establishing and leading effective teams to achieve programme, quality, and delivery targets.
- Ensure the delivery of technically complete solutions and reports that meet client expectations and remain within Arcadis budgets.
- Oversee technical risk mitigation, safety, and value within the design process, implementing a high level of innovation and problem solving.
- Develop and manage integrated design programmes, setting key performance milestones and producing reports at all stages.
- Mentor and technically develop staff, providing coaching and supporting chartered institution membership.
- Establish, consolidate, and maintain strong relationships with clients throughout and following project delivery.
- Use technical knowledge to identify and pursue new client opportunities, providing both technical and commercial input into bids and the competitive process.
- Keep up to date with technical and legislative requirements relevant to the sector.
- Build enduring relationships with other teams and technical disciplines, promoting collaboration.
- Use understanding of client business and competitive landscape to provide input and focus during bidding and project delivery.
- Communicate project strategy, briefs, and client requirements clearly to the team, ensuring engagement and alignment.
- Seek and record regular feedback from clients on Arcadis performance, technical solutions, and delivery, taking action as required.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to clients and stakeholders, supporting them through technical decision-making and offering alternative solutions where project parameters change.
- Undertake technical reviews for projects, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by your manager or Arcadis.
First and foremost, you share our passion for improving quality of life through your contribution to major urban development and regeneration projects that change the way we move around our city. You are a chartered or registered engineering professional with a passion for sharing your knowledge and experience with the next generation of engineers. You will come to us with:
- 15+ years of experience
- Chartered or registered engineer and with relevant local accreditation (RPEQ);
- Extensive senior industry experience with urban development and regeneration design management is essential;
- Well-established industry networks and be a recognised leader in urban development;
- Demonstrated experience working in a consulting environment with clear responsibility for technical & commercial outcomes;
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of technical, drafting and engineering staff both locally and internationally; and
- Proven ability to network and influence peers, as well as excellent communication and relationship building skills both internally and externally.
- Relevant engineering degree and/or qualification.
