The Team
The Permanent Pool is a highly valued service that provides an adaptable and responsive nursing workforce to support inpatient services at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Repatriation Centre. This is not your typical ward role. Permanent Pool nurses are at the forefront of hospital flow, workforce flexibility and patient safety - responding to staffing needs, surge demand and clinical priorities. The Permanent Pool also provides the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) role, which supports hospital transfers and MET/CODE Blue support to the entire hospital.
If you thrive in fast-paced environments and want to be part of a team that keeps the hospital moving, then this is the role for you.
The Role
As a member of the Permanent Pool, you will:
- Work within a flexible and dynamic environment across a broad range of inpatient areas
- Benefit from the security of contracted hours, while enjoying variety in your clinical practice
- Receive individualised orientation and ongoing professional development, supported by experienced clinical coaches
- Consolidate and expand your general medical and surgical nursing skills across diverse patient groups
- Access structured professional development opportunities to enhance your clinical capability and scope of practice
- Be supported in pursuing career progression, including pathways to the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) role.
This is an excellent opportunity for nurses seeking to build a strong, versatile skill set, develop confidence across multiple specialties, and contribute to a workforce that underpins safe and effective patient care.
If you are driven by challenge, motivated by variety, and ready to grow into a versatile and highly skilled clinician, apply to join the Permanent Pool.

- A minimum of 2 years acute care experience
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence-based practice in the practice setting.
You will need:
- Sound knowledge of the principles of nursing care, procedures and practices
