The Opportunity
Norwest Private Hospital is seeking an experienced, motivated, and clinically knowledgeable Senior Nurse Educator - Critical Care to join our Quality, Risk & Education team.
This advanced role is ideally suited to a critical care specialist nurse educator with demonstrated capability in delivering advanced life support education, developing specialty programs, leading simulation-based training, and supporting clinical excellence across critical care areas.
You will work closely with the Quality, Risk & Education Services Manager to lead hospital-wide critical care education initiatives, strengthen capability across ICU, CCU, ED, CAU, PACU and associated high-acuity areas, and support the professional growth of Nurse Educators (NEs) and Clinical Nurse Educators (CNEs). You will also play a key role in quality improvement, National Standard 8 (Recognising & Responding to Deterioration), and National Standard 4 (Medication Safety) incident reviews, and ensuring education supports safe, highquality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Critical Care Education Leadership
- Lead critical care education programs across ICU, CCU, ED, CAU, PACU and highacuity areas.
- Coordinate and deliver Advanced Life Support (ALS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) programs, ensuring alignment with current guidelines.
- Support Midwifery Educators to arrange access to Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) programs
- Provide expert clinical guidance and support to NEs, CNEs, CNSs and preceptors in critical care areas.
Program Development & Clinical Capability
- Develop and maintain structured education programs for critical care specialties, including competency frameworks, simulation scenarios, clinical assessments, and capability reviews.
- Support the development, orientation and upskilling of nurses transitioning into critical care environments.
- Facilitate simulation, emergency mock responses, and interprofessional training.
- Hot/cold debriefs following clinical emergencies
Quality, Safety & Governance
- Actively participate in the National Standard 8 Committee, supporting recognition and response to clinical deterioration.
- Actively participate in the National Standard 4 Medication Safety Committee
- Contribute to clinical incident reviews, Serious Adverse Event Reviews, and clinical investigations with an education and systemsimprovement focus.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives related to critical care, medication safety, clinical deterioration, resuscitation, and emergency response systems.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate with Nurse Unit Managers and senior clinical staff to identify learning needs and implement targeted education.
- Mentor and support ward-based educators (NEs and CNEs), promoting consistency, professional growth, and excellence in education delivery.
Learning Management & Compliance
- Oversee critical care components of the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate compliance reporting and documentation.
- Gap analysis and supporting action planning and implementation of education components
- Provide evidence and reporting to support accreditation and short-notice assessment requirements.
- Evaluate education effectiveness using data-driven quality metrics and feedback systems.
Innovation & Professional Development
- Champion innovative teaching methods including digital education, simulation, competency-based assessment, and interprofessional learning.
- Promote self- reflection and opportunities for clinical supervision debriefing
- Promote lifelong learning, supporting postgraduate study, research engagement, and professional development for critical care staff.
Essential Criteria
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
- Minimum 8 years postgraduate clinical experience, with extensive experience in critical care (ICU, ED or CCU).
- Minimum 4 years' experience as a Critical Care Nurse Educator or equivalent advanced education role.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering ALS/PALS or advanced resuscitation training.
- TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care Nursing.
- Evidence of developing, delivering, and evaluating specialty education programs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- High digital literacy including LMS administration and Microsoft Office.
- Comprehensive understanding of NSQHS Standards, particularly Standards 4 and 8.
Desirable Criteria
Postgraduate qualifications in education, clinical teaching, leadership, or management.
Familiarity with systems, processes, and education frameworks.
Instructor credentials in ALS/PALS or equivalent courses.
