Software Designer

Role Software Designers play a key role within the Travelogix product development team; understanding and analysing customer and market requirements and formulating appropriate solutions. They act as the main conduit between the marketing and the programming team by translating business requirements into software solutions according to a prescribed development methodology. Major Responsibilities Design innovative software solutions based on requirements provided by Product Managers, Customers and other key stakeholders. Work closely with other team members to ensure that the product meets the agreed requirements and to ensure that the product meets agreed quality standards. Lead the development of every new solution as a project, setting timeframes for the team and tracking actuals. When appropriate, propose improvements and alternatives, which may bring about superior solutions. Document functional specifications, including domain modelling, detailed use cases and interface design. Take initiative to the improvement of software development processes used across the team. Provide training and mentoring for the other team members in the best practice of analytical techniques and application of the agreed SDLC. Assist colleagues outside the Product Development team in the knowledge and understanding of new features and changes, including but not limited to: Customer Support team, Marketing team, Training team, Implementation team. Maintain currency with developments in software development environments, particularly SaaS and Webservices. Skills and Experience Software Designers work closely with the programming team and you should ideally have formal software development qualifications and experience in application development. You will need sufficient knowledge of Python and PostgreSQL environments to provide detailed specifications and engage in rich dialogue with individual programmers. Just as importantly you will have the ability to understand business requirements of individual customers as well as the market needs as specified by the product management and marketing functions. Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) Web design certification desirable Professional Experience Software Architecture & Design Requirements Management Exposure to Agile methodologies Web application development experience UI design desirable UML Experience working with Offshore Development teams Previous use of Linux and Python beneficial Travel industry experience is a plus but not mandatory Aptitude Travelogix operates in a demanding market sector and requires all team members to have a strong business focus, excellent communication skills and the ability to succeed on a rapidly changing environment.
