The Role

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) team in Melbourne. This role will focus on the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical engineering projects within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

You will operate as a key technical contributor within project teams, taking responsibility for completing defined scopes of work with minimal supervision, while working closely with discipline leads and project leadership.

This is a strong delivery-focused role, ideal for an engineer who enjoys being hands-on with design and producing complete engineering solutions.

In the role of Senior Electrical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Independently deliver electrical engineering design packages from concept through to detailed design, tender, construction, and project completion
  • Undertake detailed engineering calculations, design development, and system selection
  • Produce coordinated, high-quality documentation aligned with project requirements and standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, compliant and high-quality design solutions.
  • Ensure work is delivered in line with project scope, program, and quality expectations
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into deliverables
  • Contribute to internal technical standards, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist with site-related activities such as inspections and construction support where required
  • Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to repeat business and new opportunities
  • Assist in mentoring junior engineers and supporting team development
  • Participate in broader office and corporate activities as required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • Chartership with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or working towards
  • Typically, 6-12 years' experience in electrical design within a consulting environment.
  • Consulting experience is essential
  • Data Centre / Mission Critical project experience (highly desirable / preferred)
  • Experience performing load assessments, fault studies and coordination studies.
  • Proven experience independently delivering complete electrical design packages
  • Strong understanding of relevant Australian codes, standards, and regulatory requirements including IEC, IEEE and TIA-942
  • Experience in project coordination and discipline-level leadership
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Interest in furthering experience and understanding with project financials, resource planning, and delivery management
  • Proficiency in software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, ETAP, Vipcodia, PowerCad (or similar)
