ABOUT THE ROLE

As Government Affairs Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and influencing law, regulation and public policy on issues that matter to Chartered Accountants and the communities they serve. Reporting to the Advocacy Campaign and Government Affairs Leader, you’ll lead state and territory government engagement, working closely with members, advocacy colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes in the public interest.
This role offers the opportunity to operate at the intersection of policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement — turning insight into impact.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading state and territory government engagement and advocacy activities aligned to CA ANZ policy positions
  • Building and managing relationships with government departments, regulators, Ministers’ offices, Opposition and crossbench representatives
  • Identifying emerging policy issues relevant to members and developing wellresearched policy positions
  • Undertaking policy research and preparing submissions, briefing notes, letters, talking points and speeches
  • Partnering with External Affairs to support media and advocacy campaigns
  • Engaging members through consultations, events, roundtables and digital channels
  • Coordinating advocacy activity with internal teams, Regional Managers and Technical Advisory Committees
  • Analysing state and territory budgets and supporting related communications and reporting
  • Using digital platforms and data to track engagement, inform strategy and improve outcomes

ABOUT YOU

You’re a confident policy and government relations professional who enjoys working in complex environments and influencing outcomes through collaboration and insight.

  • Extensive experience in a legal, policy, government or related environment
  • Strong understanding of public policy development and the legislative process
  • Proven ability to analyse complex policy or regulatory issues and communicate them clearly
  • The ability to identify strategic opportunities and translate them into clear, focused advocacy activity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience with submissions and stakeholder briefings
  • Strong relationshipbuilding skills with the ability to engage credibly across diverse audiences
  • A proactive, solutionsfocused mindset with high attention to detail
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while contributing to team outcomes

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of business and professional issues impacting Chartered Accountants in Australia
  • Experience interpreting legislation and working with regulatory frameworks
  • Background in policy research, project delivery and evaluation
  • Tertiary qualification in law, public policy, government, or a related discipline
