Job description:

The Registrar/Senior Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of palliative private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Launceston General Hospital and provision of medical support to palliative clients in the community and the Melwood Specialist Palliative Care Unit, as required

The Team

Based in the community in Launceston, you will join a friendly and motivated multidisciplinary team comprising a small core team of specialists, registrars, nursing and allied health staff. We provide palliative care services across Northern Tasmania extending from the Meander Valley, to the Bass Strait and the Bay of Fires and to historic central Tasmania. The service works closely with other community service providers and partner organisations to support the delivery of high-quality palliative care and achieve positive outcomes for the communities of northern Tasmania.

This position will primarily undertake work in the LGH as part of the SPCS consult team with offices based in the primary health building in the Launceston CBD.

The Role

  • The Registrar/Senior Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of palliative private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Launceston General Hospital and provision of medical support to palliative clients in the community, as required.
  • The position is an accredited training position for the Clinical Foundation of Palliative Medicine and for advanced training in Palliative Medicine-both Term 3, consult and Term 4, cancer care terms
  • The role requires collaboration with primary providers & inpatient admitting teams across a range of settings with a focus on ensuring patient care is appropriate, timely and within their goals of care.

Details of appointment

  • Fixed term full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 1 February 2027 until 30 January 2028.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $138,978 - $194,675 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • North and North-West Tasmania Recruitment and Retention Allowance of $10,000 per annum, paid fortnightly
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $3,278 per annum, pro rata
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
  • Professional development and accelerated pathways.
  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
  • Fitness Passport - You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
  • other allowances as applicable.
