About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll professional to join our team as a Payroll Manager on a Maximum Term Basis until March 2027, with the possibility of extension.
As the Payroll Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the whole of the payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll while maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation and internal policies. This role plays a key leadership role in managing payroll systems, providing strategic insights to support workforce planning, and ensuring the integrity of payroll data.
Other key accountabilities of this role include:
- Lead and mentor the payroll team, ensuring the development and performance of team members in managing payroll operations efficiently.
- Lead and manage the end-to-end processing of two fortnightly payroll runs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Supervise payroll activities, ensuring compliance with legislation, tax, superannuation and enterprise agreements
- Oversee complex payroll variations including salary adjustments, allowances, leave entitlements and back payments
- Ensure accurate maintenance and integrity of payroll data for reporting, audits and regulatory compliance
- Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries, providing expert advice to employees and managers
- Lead year-end payroll finalisation, including reconciliations, FBT and ATO reporting requirements
- Manage statutory obligations including payroll tax, superannuation, ABS and ATO reporting
- Drive continuous improvement of payroll systems, processes and compliance practices
- Collaborate with HR, Finance and leadership to support workforce planning and payroll reporting
Qualifications
About you
We are looking for someone with the following skills and qualifications:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Payroll or related discipline is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in managing end-to-end payroll operations, preferably within a large or complex organisation.
- Experience in leading a payroll team and driving system improvements is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, tax laws, and enterprise agreements as well as a strong understanding of how payroll integrates with HR and financial systems.
- Experience in the processing of payroll and associated records, including superannuation and relevant taxation legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse payroll data and trends, providing insights and recommendations for improvement with the proven ability to resolve complex payroll issues efficiently and effectively.
- Experience in dealing with confidential personnel and/or business records.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure payroll compliance with all relevant legislation and manage risk in payroll processing and system operations.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation laws, and enterprise agreements. Experience in payroll system improvements and project management is highly desirable.
- High-level ability and experience in Microsoft Excel (i.e. formula creations, VLOOKUP, Data Filters etc.).
- Advanced proficiency with payroll systems, HRMIS, and Microsoft Excel. Experience in managing system integrations, upgrades, and payroll automation
