This role is based in our Sydney or Melbourne office with Hybrid working arrangement.
Role Purpose
The role focuses on the identification and acquisition of new retail business and renewal opportunities with Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers across the National Electricity Market (NEM). It involves, developing and managing relationships with direct prospects, brokers and energy consultants ('TPIs'), helping to optimise gross margin and customer value over the long term. The role reports to the Head of Retail Sales.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and pursue new energy retail opportunities across large C&I customers to drive revenue growth including pipeline management, tender response, sales presentations, negotiations, internal approvals and deal execution.
Collaborate closely with internal teams including Trading, Origination, and Pricing teams to structure commercially viable offers.
Build strong relationships across the channel partner base, with a particular focus on deepening engagement where innovative solution opportunities exist.
Ensure channel partners have a thorough understanding of SmartestEnergy's products, services, and market positioning. Develop channel-specific collateral, propositions, and engagement programmes.
Provide market feedback, customer insights and competitor analysis to support solutions development, product roadmap updates and strategic planning.
Use CRM systems to maintain pipeline visibility, performance tracking, and reporting.
Participate in industry conferences and networking events to grow professional networks and contribute to SmartestEnergy's marketing and thought leadership program.
Ensure that information security policies and procedures are adhered to.
Experience:
Demonstrated success in B2B energy retail sales or large-scale solution selling in a complex commercial environment.
Demonstrated experience managing full sales cycles - from pipeline prospecting to contract execution.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a matrixed energy business.
Familiarity with retail energy contracts and wholesale markets.
Experience working with brokers, aggregators, and consultants in the C&I energy space.
Experience engaging large C&I customers on their broader energy strategy, including energy supply, sustainability objectives, and financial risk management.
Knowledge:
Understanding of the Australian energy and environmental certificate markets, especially across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Knowledge of C&I customer needs, buying behaviours, and procurement processes.
Familiarity with electricity pricing, risk, and portfolio management principles.
Understanding of market regulations and compliance considerations in energy retail.
Competence using CRM and sales performance tools
