Voluntary Assisted Dying Regional Navigator

Apply Job no: XARR3 Casual contract The Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017 (the Act) commenced operation in Victoria on 19 June 2019. From this date, Victorians who are at the end of their life and who meet defined eligibility criteria are able to request access to voluntary assisted dying (VAD). VAD is a process where an eligible person may choose to administer a substance for the purpose of causing death in accordance with the process set out in the Act. The Statewide VAD Care Navigator Service is staffed by VAD Care Navigators who act as a point of contact for the community, health practitioners and health services across Victoria for information about or assistance with VAD. VAD Care Navigators work closely with the person, their carers, family and friends, medical practitioners and healthcare teams to tailor support that meets the needs of the person. For example, they may assist with identifying appropriate service referral pathways and connecting people to health practitioners and services that best meet their specific needs and goals of care. NHW is seeking an experienced clinician who is experienced in providing care to people who are at the end of their lives with a comprehensive understanding of the Victorian health care system and referral pathways. This role is regionally based and will require travel to and from different locations within the Hume region. Our Region: Wangaratta has a population of approximately 30,000 and our catchment serves a community of around 100 000 throughout the northeast. An easy 2 hours drive on the Hume freeway from Melbourne and less than an hour to Albury airport with direct flights to most of the large Australian cities.
