The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Alcohol and Other Drugs service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team within the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District, delivering high-quality care to patients accessing Drug and Alcohol services.

This position requires strong clinical skills, sound judgement and a commitment to delivering safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to patients, clients and carers across the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to build therapeutic relationships, and a genuine passion for supporting individuals experiencing drug and alcohol related health challenges.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current Nursing Registration (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Demonstrated experience and clinical skills in Acute Medical / Mental Health Nursing as a Registered Nurse (including completion of a new graduate RN program or equivalent experience working as a Registered Nurse) and a keen interest to learn and gain experience in Drug and Alcohol.
  3. Demonstrated awareness of Drug and Alcohol dependence issues and Opioid Treatment Programs.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a multi-disiplinary team including Medical, Nursing, Allied Health and Community staff as well as General Practitioners, and external agencies.
  5. Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to identify and resolve conflict situations by managing own emotional responses and interacting with others in a personable and professional manner.
  7. Ability to work a flexible roster, day or evening shift across all days of the week according to the unit/service requirements.
  8. Current Driver's License and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
