What you will be doing.

  • Maintain and improve designated reserves, streetscapes and recreation areas.
  • Operate Tractor, Front Deck Mowers, Trucks, Brush-cutters and other Parks machinery to assist with the maintenance and development of Council's assets.
  • Picking up of all litter, branches before commencement of mowing and removing them from site.
  • Spraying application with use of knapsack as required for the control of weed vegetation of Council assets using industry best practice principals and guidelines
  • Ensure that work sites are left in a clean and tidy condition upon completion of works.
  • Ensure that all plant & equipment is maintained to council standards for the day's work which may include checking of safety guards, safety switches, safety devices and reporting of any maintenance requirements to the Team Leader.
  • Inspect / Report any damage, vandalism and/or hazards at each work site to the Team Leader.
  • The Parks Maintenance Officer carries out programmed mowing, maintenance, and improvement works across reserves, parks, and designated areas within Hume, ensuring sites are safe, clean, and well-presented while representing Council professionally.
  • The role involves operating tractors, mowers, trucks, brushcutters, and other equipment, preparing sites by removing litter and obstructions, undertaking weed control spraying, and leaving all work areas tidy upon completion.
  • Working as part of a team, the officer follows safe work practices, ensures plant and equipment are operational and compliant, sets up traffic control, inspects and reports hazards or damage, and contributes to training, supervision, and continuous service improvement.
  • The position also includes maintaining accurate records, supporting work scheduling, communicating effectively with stakeholders, and safely operating and maintaining vehicles, equipment, and safety resources.

The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated experiences and knowledge in the safe operation and maintenance of Tractors, Front Deck mowers, Trucks and associated plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and in a team environment to achieve team goals and objectives.
  • Experience in maintaining and further improving parks, reserves and horticultural assets.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Capacity to identify improvement opportunities across Council assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and monitor works programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in organising equipment for set tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to changing work requirements and operational priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the safe operation and maintenance of tractors, front deck mowers, trucks, and associated plant and equipment (desirable but not essential)

Licenses and Qualifications:

  • Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Licence (desirable but not essential
  • A valid Driver's Licence (essential)
  • Certificate III or higher in Turf Management, Horticulture, or a related field (desirable but not essential)
