The Family and Carer Consultants who work within Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service are highly valued as they assist in ensuring the family and carer network and system is considered throughout the consumer journey. It is an exciting position that provides support, training, capacity building, consultation and specialist clinical interventions with families and carers of this service.

Role Requirements
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the following criteria in your application:

  1. Social Worker or Occupational Therapist qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award Current full registration with AHPRA and/or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer; Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and having at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and in addition holding approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is to be appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation; Psychologist with a four-year degree in psychology, being a three year degree with a fourth year honours in psychology or a qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, and registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)
  2. Extensive post graduate experience in in mental health including working with families and carers.
  3. Demonstrated experience in assessment, treatment and management of families of people who have a mental illness in a mental health and community setting, including evidence based family/carer focused interventions.
  4. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clinical services throughout all organisational levels to enhance pathways and transfer between care settings.
  5. Ability to provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and to guide and support others in providing service excellence for families and carers, with the capacity to provide clinical supervision to other staff.
  6. The ability to initiate, lead, complete co-design quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence or willingness to travel in accordance with the role requirements.
