Job description:

Leads medical workforce strategy, policy and projects; analyses data, advises on complex issues, manages risks and delivers outcomes. statewide value

The Team:

The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in crosssectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning, to build a sustainable, skilled and futureready workforce for Tasmania. The Unit delivers integrated, evidencebased workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, leads implementation and monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan, and ensures alignment with national workforce reforms and priorities.

The Medical Workforce Policy and Strategy Unit (MWPSU) is a functional stream of the WSPU, providing dedicated leadership in medical workforce policy, strategy, education and training coordination, and medical staffing frameworks to support statewide consistency and sustainable medical workforce supply.

The Role:

This position coordinates the development and implementation of medical workforce strategy and policy initiatives that support sustainable workforce models and statewide consistency. It involves leading research and analysis using qualitative and quantitative data to provide timely advice, recommendations and solutions on complex workforce issues. The role projectmanages policy and strategy initiatives to ensure deliverables are met to a high standard, monitors emerging risks and opportunities, and advises on impacts for service delivery and workforce sustainability. Working closely with the Workforce Planning Team and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, the position aligns policy with planning insights, fosters strategic collaboration, and prepares highlevel briefings, correspondence and policy documentation for senior leaders and government, translating evidence and insights into practical, implementable outcomes.

You will need:

  • Proven experience in strategic policy and/or workforce planning, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks to develop sound, compliant advice.
  • Strong strategic, conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to produce highquality documentation and clear, compelling briefings for senior and diverse audiences.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build productive relationships and effectively resolve complex issues with stakeholders.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $111,754 to $126,579 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2026
