You will lead a skilled group of professionals focused on the University wide Network Transformation that is currently underway and leading integrating advanced automation, AI, and Generative AI into network operations, driving intelligent network management and operational excellence. About The Role:
As the Manager, Digital Networks & Communications, you will spearhead the strategic evolution of VU's digital network environment. Your leadership will ensure the delivery of secure, high-performance network services that support critical university functions. With the Implementation of a new enterprise network coming to completion at the end of 2026, you will champion the adoption of AI-driven automation and advanced technologies to optimize network operations and drive continuous service improvements. Collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners, you will manage vendor relationships, oversee project delivery, and contribute to the university's broader digital strategy. This role offers a chance to make a significant impact in a fast-paced, technology-driven academic setting.
Position Key Duties:
- Lead and manage the Network & Communications team to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing network services across the university.
- Drive the integration of automation, AI, and Generative AI technologies to enhance network monitoring, issue detection, and intelligent management.
- Develop and implement standards and best practices for the responsible and secure use of AI within network operations.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, building digital capability within the team and broader organisation.
- Ensure network services comply with cybersecurity policies, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to align network services with university needs.
- Oversee vendor performance and service delivery, ensuring alignment with procurement policies and strategic objectives.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the university's digital and technology strategy, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and service quality.
Position Details:
- Classification: HEP 9
- Salary: $132,942 - $138,314 - Plus 17% Super
- Employment Type: Full Time - Ongoing
- Hours per Week: 36.75/1 FTE
- Location: Footscray Park Campus - 3 days on-site

About You:
- Proven leadership experience managing IT services and network platforms in a large, complex environment.
- Strong technical expertise in network communications technologies, including software-defined networks and AI-driven network management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through digital transformation, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, vendor relationships, and deliver high-quality projects within tight deadlines.
