Senior Commercial Lawyer

This is a senior legal advisory role focused on supporting fast-growing businesses across technology, healthcare, SaaS, fintech, and other emerging sectors. You will act as a trusted legal and commercial advisor to a diverse portfolio of clients, helping them navigate complex contractual, regulatory, and strategic challenges. The role combines hands-on legal work with client ownership, leadership responsibilities, and opportunities to influence how modern legal services are delivered. You will work in a dynamic, tech-enabled environment that prioritizes speed, quality, and practical business outcomes. In addition to advising clients, you will mentor junior lawyers and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing. Accountabilities:
- Act as the primary legal advisor for a portfolio of clients, building strong long-term relationships and providing proactive, business-focused legal support.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including IT contracts, licensing arrangements, partnership agreements, and service contracts.
- Advise clients across diverse sectors including technology, healthcare, SaaS, fintech, and other regulated or emerging industries.
- Provide guidance on regulatory compliance, privacy law, consumer law, intellectual property, and broader commercial legal matters.
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior lawyers and graduates, contributing to their technical development and commercial judgment.
- Collaborate with practice leaders to ensure high-quality legal delivery and consistent client service standards.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, training initiatives, and external thought leadership through articles, webinars, and client education.
- Support the continuous improvement of legal processes and contribute to the growth and positioning of the practice in the market.
Requirements:
- Minimum 4+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial law within private practice or in-house legal teams.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts across a variety of industries.
- Exposure to or interest in technology, healthcare, startups, or other high-growth and regulated sectors is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of commercial, regulatory, privacy, and consumer law frameworks.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate legal advice into practical business solutions.
- Proven leadership capability or readiness to manage and mentor junior legal professionals.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a strong client service orientation.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
- Collaborative mindset with a proactive, solutions-driven and growth-oriented approach.
- Must hold an Australian Legal Practising Certificate and have full work rights in Australia.
