Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located in the Centre for Population Health in Integrated and Community Health.

This Fixed Term appointment is until 26 October 2026.

A successful candidate for the Director - Public Health Unit role will be an experienced and strategic public health leader with specialist expertise in communicable disease control, immunisation, epidemiology and environmental health, and a strong track record of applying evidencebased approaches to complex population health challenges. They will demonstrate exceptional leadership and management capability, including the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage resources, and deliver highquality services aligned with organisational and government priorities. The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and sustain effective partnerships across government, healthcare, academic and community sectors, and to engage confidently with media and stakeholders. A commitment to research, teaching and workforce development is essential, alongside the ability to respond decisively to public health incidents and emergencies. Above all, the ideal candidate will be collaborative, adaptable and valuesdriven, with a strong focus on improving health outcomes and addressing inequities across diverse communities

Essential Requirements for Appointment

Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)

Sound clinical knowledge in Public Health Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Selection Criteria

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:

1. Possess registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.

2. Specialist expertise, knowledge and understanding of communicable disease control, immunisation, environmental health and management, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including:

o High level interpersonal and communication skills.

o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

o Experience and involvement in research, quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice

4. Demonstrated commitment to staff development, teaching and supervision

5. Experience in the application of public health methods, including epidemiological surveillance and evidence-based management, to complex public health issues

6. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of public health trainees.

7. Demonstrated effectiveness in establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships to achieve public health goals

8. To be an excellent communicator - with colleagues and health services management, with partners and community representatives, and with the media. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential in fulfilling this requirement.
