This is a Level 3 position. However, if there are no appropriate Level 3 applicants, applications from Level 1 and 2 will be considered. The selection criteria reflects the requirements for a Level 3 applicant. Responses from Level 1 or 2 applicants need to demonstrate their level of competence with regard to the same criteria and their ability to work towards Level 3. The expected performance of the incumbent will be commensurate with his/her years of experience and current level at commencement of appointment. The incumbent will work towards meeting the criteria for Level 3.

About the role:

This crucial role will see you provide assistance to all callers at the first point of contact, conduct mental health triage and/or assessment, and ensure smooth and efficient transfer of care for people experiencing mental health concerns and their families/carers.

As a part of the Northern Mental Health Emergency Care - Rural Access Program (NMHEC - RAP), you will engage in telehealth assessments for rural emergency departments across the district. You will also be a part of our first responder program, where you will play a vital role in supporting police and ambulance services to complete triage in the community, via telehealth. Additionally, you will respond to, and process, incoming referrals through Hunter New England Mental Health.

About You:

We are looking for someone with knowledge and skills in mental health assessment and triage, and the ability to manage competing demands and prioritise workload.

You should be confident in communicating and working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment to achieve optimal outcomes for consumers and their families/carers.

Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Nutrition and Dietetics, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health, Djirruwang Program) which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
