About the role:

To provide specialist care to patients requiring ECMO retrieval as part of NSW ECMO retrieval pathway

  • Provision of interventions normally associated with the Intensive Care Unit, including initiation and maintenance of ECMO
  • Provision of Intensive Care Medicine consultation, supervision and education to specialist trainees, junior medical staff and undergraduates,
  • Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;
  • Participation in weekend and out-of-hours duty and an on-call roster for ECMO retrieval

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent's Health Australia.
  • Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Possess Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Intensive Care Medicine commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position: possess experience at consultant level in the management of critically ill and post-operative patients with mechanical cardiac assist devices and extracorporeal life support, including inter-hospital transfer
  • Experience in cannulation and initiation of extracorporeal life support, retrieval of patients on extracorporeal life support
  • Trained in echocardiography Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a
  • multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;
  • Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices including active participation in the unit's research programme commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;
